LOOSE PARTS LOVE

"Provisioning your setting with loose parts, even though they are humble, can be momentous."

from Loose Parts: Inspiring Play in Young Children

by Lisa Daly + Miriam Beloglovsky

This Valentine's Day, we are going to throw a little love party for our favorite supplies - LOOSE PARTS! Introduced to us through a series of books by Lisa Daly + Miriam Beloglovsky, loose parts have become an integral part of our creative process at Sapna. Though most are just recycled bits of trash, we have found inspiration from the smallest bottle cap or earring to giant cardboard boxes and palm fronds. It has been a joy to watch families bring their loose parts to share with the group. Learners see so many possibilities for each bit brought in. It's always exciting to watch these possibilities take shape and become something new and unexpected. So here is a shout out to our favorite early childhood educators - thanks Lisa + Miriam - and their important work!

"When children interact with loose parts, they enter a world of "what if" that promotes the type of thinking that leads to problem solving and theoretical reasoning. Loose parts enhance children's ability to think imaginatively and see solutions, and they bring a sense of adventure and excitement to children's play."
