UNDER THE SEA WEEK
mr. nick's notes
This week at Sapna we all enjoyed virtual Sea Camp! One of our students had a great idea to share an offering of a podcast that she likes with the theme of exploring the deep sea. Students interacted with videos and activities that provided great information about the wonders of the sea. I think our kiddos are experts now! We ended our week of sea camp with students creating their own ocean in a bottle. Who knew that a little water, oil, maple syrup and food coloring could make such a cool learning experience! We learned about density, polarity and made some predictions about why the liquids in the bottle do not mix.
Our student mentors had a great week also. Young Athletes was a hit! Mentors have been taking initiative by planning out specific exercises and fitness activities for our little ones. All students are very excited to continue this offering. Another mentor began to put together an offering titled “Little Artists” where he will be conducting a step-by-step drawing class.
This week we began reading the Newbery Award-winning book, Holes. This is one of my personal favorites as it sparks great discussion and teaches students perseverance and determination. We started by reading the first two chapters and doing a digging activity. Mentors were encouraged to really get into character and enjoyed finding prizes in the dirt after their hard work.
