The Evolution of an Obstacle Course

Here we go again with the Roots kids leading the way. Monica and Juno came in on Wednesday morning determined to create an obstacle course. It started with the usual materials - balance beam, folded mats, log cushions, hopscotch rug. Then, they grabbed the bean bag animals and paint brushes.

"Can we use these?"

"Sure..."

Popscicle sticks. Hula hoop. Balls. Hat boxes. A tinsel boa.

Later in the morning, the Branches students arrived and some joined the obstacle course offering. Inspired by the new materials and layout, they began to add a whole new dimension - puzzles, trivia, and a scavenger hunt!

Learners created three sections with various obstacles that were awarded points for completion and deductions for errors. The obstacle course was no longer just physical, competitors had to answer academic trivia, as well as solve puzzles in order to complete the course. In the end, the person who took grand prize was the one who took their time and gave thoughtful answers. Too many lessons learned in this play session to count!
